January 2008. Happy New Year to all!
February 2007. Following some intensive research into materials and components a number of amplifier upgrades are now available. Copper chassis parts, cryogenically treated output and inter-stage transformers, carbon film resistors and a few other tweaks that I'd prefer to keep under my hat can be fitted to old amps and new amps can be ordered to this specification. Code named 'EXD', used together these modifications lift the amplifiers to another level of transparency, tone and fluidity making them the most musically engaging and satisfying designs I have yet produced. For more information contact The BorderPatrol Control Unit has also undergone a significant overhaul. Different passive components and various circuit tweaks have combined to produce a richer, more relaxed cleaner sound which is more musically engaging and easier to listen to for long periods whilst still retaining the clarity, tone and dynamics that BorderPatrol products are renowned for. All the mods can be retro fitted to older pre-amps. For more information contact BorderPatrol . February 2007. I am pleased to announce the formation of BorderPatrol UK a joint venture with The Sound Practice, St Albans, Herts. Border Patrol UK will aim to provide the following services:-
James will be working together with myself to maintain and establish contact with existing and potential new customers. In addition it is my intention to visit the UK to assist at shows and to upgrade and modify to amplifiers. David Wright will continue to address servicing and technical matters.
Gary February 2007. BorderPatrol will be exhibiting at the London High Fidelity Show, March 31st-April 1st, Park Inn, Heathrow UK February 2006. Borderpatrol Control Unit 1 deleted from the range. Due to zero interest in the lower specification Control Unit, it has been dropped from the range. November 2005 The P21, S20, S10 and P20 now feature copper chassis parts in place of aluminium and superior passive components.
September 8 2005 Contact details for BorderPatrol in the USA are 7/7/05 Border Patrol is moving to the USA. I am relocating the business to Maryland USA where I hope to garner the same support and enthusiasm for the amplifiers as I have enjoyed in the UK. The past two years has seen the development of a UK nationwide dealer network largely as a result of the increased awareness of the amplifiers following reviews and awards in the hi-fi press. Alternative Audio in the South West, The Sound Practice in the South East, Definitive Audio in the Midlands, Practical Hi-Fi+ in the North West and Shadow Audio Consultants in Scotland will continue to represent and demonstrate the amplifiers and should be the point contacts for any enquiries. I will continue to be available for contact via E-Mail and telephone in the US. Our international contacts will continue as normal. David Wright of Pure Music will become the contact for servicing as well as taking over the Audio Innovations support. David is based in Littlehampton UK and can be contacted on 01903 715191. He will also perform installation of the Border Patrol PSU's. I would like to thank everyone who has purchased a BorderPatrol amplifier or power supply for their support and enthusiasm. I would like to say a big thanks to the UK Hi-FI press, particularly Jason Kennedy at Hi-Fi Choice and Roy Gregory at Hi-Fi+ for their positive reviews which have helped enormously to establish the brand. And a big thank you to customers who date back to my Definitive Audio Brighton days and have followed me and Border Patrol through various incarnations and locations. It's great to still be in contact and providing audio equipment to clients that date back to the beginning of Definitive Audio Brighton in 1989. I will be visiting the UK regularly to do shows and upgrades to amplifiers so if this sounds like a goodbye, it isn't. I'll be catching up with all of you sometime down the road..... Best Regards Gary Dews
21/2/05. We are pleased to announce the appointment of a new dealership in the North West of the UK. Practical Hi-Fi will be well known to many in the North West for their region-wide chain of shops selling good quality budget HiFi and audio visual equipment. Recently the Warrington shop has opened the new 'high-end' orientated Practical HiFi Plus managed by the hugely experienced David Speirs. David has a long history in the industry as manager at the Music Room and Serious Kit in Manchester and in a marketing capacity at Audio Note and Sugden. His time as an Audio Innovations agent at The Music Room and at Audio Note mean that David has considerable experience with valve based amplification and is extremely adept at extracting maximum performance from valve based systems. With his experience and unquenchable enthusiasm, we are very pleased to have him representing Border Patrol in the North West. 27/10/04 Western Electric 300B are now available again. We can now supply amplifiers with these fine tubes, and any one requiring new WE300B's please contact us. 14/7/04 We are proud to announce that BorderPatrol pre-amplifiers will be available from September 2004. They will be available in line only and phono and line versions at two performance levels. 14/7/04 Further to posting below; the rumour is apparently unfounded and the WE 300B are still unavailable. 28/4/04 Further to the posting 3/12/03. Rumours are that WE are now shipping 300B's again. If it's true, this is excellent news, so hopefully we will be able to offer this option again in the very near future. 3/12/03 Due to the continued unavailability of Western Electric 300B valves, we can no longer offer this option. We will resume once Western Electric recommence production. In the meantime, the TJ Full Music 300B has been finding friends amongst many Border Patrol owners who find that it's fine resolution, and open and clear presentation suit the amplifiers very well. Which is superior? Is white wine better than red wine? Is tea better than coffee? It's an unanswerable question. Both are excellent. 3/12/03 New Amplifier Launch. The Border Patrol S10 power amplifier is now available. The S10 has the same audio circuit as the highly acclaimed SE300B but has dual mono construction and twin power supplies like the P20 and S10. Offering superior dynamics, speed, stereo and sound staging the S10 builds on the already not inconsiderable strengths of the SE300B and takes 300B single-ended amplification to another level. 20/03/03 New review. Check out Hi-Fi+ (issue 25) for a review of the Border Patrol P20. 20/06/03 Conversion service from 8-pin to 4-pin 2A3's for Audio Innovations 1st and 2nd Audio owners. We have converted several 1st and 2nd Audio amplifiers to use 4-pin 2A3's and due to the difficulty in obtaining 8-pin 2A3's we now offer this service. Please see the modifications section of the Audio Innovations page for more details. 20/05/03 New Amplifier Launch. The Border Patrol P21 power amplifier is now available. The P21 uses the same highly acclaimed audio circuit as the P20 but it uses a single external power supply. For full information, check out the power amplifiers page.
