DAC

Now better than ever, the latest version of the BorderPatrol SE-i DAC features several significant revisions and refinements that further enhance its musicality and listenability.

The minimalist, non-oversampling R-2R DAC chip remains, but is now mounted on a new BorderPatrol-designed DAC circuit board that uses through-hole resistors, capacitors, and DAC chip in place of the surface mount parts on the previous board. The tube/solid-state hybrid choke input filter power supply now features a custom-made, oversized, R-core power transformer in place of the previous E-I/toroid transformer arrangement. Jupiter cryo-beeswax film and foil capacitors are standard fit.

The result is a DAC that sounds richer, more dynamic, and more together, with more vivid tone colors and a seamless top-to-bottom uniformity, and one that sounds even more musical, stress-free, and involving than before.

If you are looking for a DAC that sounds relaxed with a natural tonality, this DAC is for you. If your music system tires you out rather than entertains and charms you, this DAC is for you.

If listening to music is your thing rather than analyzing recordings, check out the revised BorderPatrol DAC.

Once I stopped comparing and just listened, I fell in love with the sound. BorderPatrol has a musicality that you just don’t get from everyday digital gear.

Right away I knew the BorderPatrol wasn’t just another digital converter; there was more life, more body and soul to the sound of files.

I hadn’t intended on writing a review. After living with its sonic seduction, I couldn’t resist doing a bit more than just a follow-up piece.

Dave McNair , Part Time Audiophile

It’s a little breathtaking, really, but never in that fatiguing kind of way.

Scot Hull , Part Time Audiophile

If your right brain dominates and your romantic heart throbs, I highly recommend the DAC SE.

Herb Reichert, Stereophile

At its price point, and frankly, at a good bit above, I can’t think of another DAC that would provide a more musically involving experience. Highly recommended.
